To answer the question of “How many watts is a street light,” we must first consider the type of street light. This street lamp uses a light source of different wattage proportional to the light pole’s height. The higher the street light is, the greater the power it can consume. For example, a small wattage street light placed on a high pole can illuminate the ground, but it is not the optimal brightness/illumination ratio.
The output of a street lamp is typically between 500 and 5000 lumens, and its wattage ranges from five to fifty watts. The average street light is about five to 10 watts, while a street lamp with a lens or mirror will consume around 60 watts. These street lights can be installed on streets of all sizes and are suitable for various settings. In modern cities, LED street lights are generally selected according to the length and width of the road.
The service shall be three-wire 120/240, a minimum of 100 Amps for overhead service, and a minimum of 200 Amps for underground service.
In modern cities, street lights are operated by a small electronic circuit that switches on when light levels drop below a threshold. When the light level drops below this threshold, a small current flows from the emitter to the collector.
